“A non-profit charity that provides videos games to children in hospitals to help make them feel like kids again.”

The Purpose Behind Charity Gaming:

  • For children constantly attending doctor’s appointments and hospital visits.

  • There is a lack of engagement within the family system while staying in hospitals.

  • Children lack stimulation while in hospitals and other medical settings.

The Problem

Charity Gaming’s website is in need of a redesign that better communicates their vision and gains trust of users.

The Problem Statement

Users are open to learning more about Charity Gaming’s work with children in hospitals but feel the website could better showcase their efforts, successes, and what drives their mission.

The Solution

Reorganizing the site to better support the intention and importance of the organization’s services.

Research

While Charity Gaming’s information architecture includes some important aspects, we learned through our user research that these sections could be improved to create a user experiences that informs the user and communicates Charity Gaming’s goals more clearly.

Users care most about:

  • Clear vision and message

  • Transparency and trust

  • Evidence that supports ongoing events

Research Goals

  • Increase donations by building trust among users to support a cause they may not know much about.

  • Utilize definitive and transparent proof to instill trust in prospective users.

Ideation

Upon ideating on features to improve the site, we felt the following would be most beneficial:

  • Donating directly from the website instead of being taken to another site.

  • Integrating Charity Gaming store items into the website.

  • Sharing benefits of video games to back the purpose of Charity Gaming.

Lo-Fi Wireframes

  • We wanted to focus on a clean and usable Lo-Fi wireframe to ensure simplicity.

  • After organizing the information architecture, we integrated a single-page layout.

  • By prioritizing features and information, we reconstructed the website’s display.

Iterations

Our design went through rounds of iterations before we landed on a design we felt best serves the interest of Charity Gaming and its users.

  • Iteration 1: Colors aren’t integrating making the design feel uninteresting.

  • Iteration 2: Colorful but gradients not as smooth as we would like them to be.

  • Iteration 3: Palette is soft yet bold while pops of color are clean.

Key Insights

  • The UI of a site does a lot to make or break the impact of a website. The UI creates a lasting impression with a user and affects how they choose to further engage with a site, if at all.

  • Usability within a single page layout provides the user with guided presentation of the site’s material, while also giving the freedom to navigate quickly between the pages with a link jump feature.

  • Good UI caters to the users’ needs as well as the stakeholders, making sure both sides’ goals are met.

Future Design Opportunities

  • Increasing user personalization with the account and leaderboard to increase customer engagement and increase donations made.

  • Advance aesthetics to create a unique brand identity.

  • Further mobile development to increase accessibility and improve customer service.
